about

Following the release of his first EP on Reach Another System and tracks along with several well-respected artists on Worst Records and Artifical Horizon, Itako delivers here a new EP with a strong dystopic vibe. Themed around the words uttered by the father of the atomic bomb when he realized that the world would never be the same after the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, it is the perfect soundtrack for these uncertain times.

‘Helpless and Anxious’ opens up Blade Runner-style with its aerial beats and infectious acid basslines. With ‘Not Unique. Not Different.’ coming next, things start to get more serious. Blending harsh vocals and hard-hitting drums at a slowed-down tempo, it is clearly reminiscent of Itako’s passion for EBM and New Beat.

Thereafter, ‘The Destroyer of Worlds’ waltz in with its 90 BPMs of pure lo-fi delight. Among its ethereal pads and Carpenteresque arps gently guided by the words of Oppenheimer in the background, it is driven by almost ritual-like kicks as deep as atomic blasts.

As a deserving finale to this futuristic trip, label head Letherique gives the leading track a more cinematic twist with an ever-evolving epic structure and bass drums feeling like meteors raining one after another on the surface of the Earth.
